CAM “Superman” NEWTON’S Unpredicted Defeat

After a glorious season, Carolina fans felt invincible going into Super Bowl 50 with the Most Valuable Superman leading the way. His powers shook up the nation with an explosive year, but Denver ultimately held the kryptonite to Cam Newton’s powers. They applied constant pressure to Newton throughout Sunday’s game, leaving the dabbing king drained and defeated after six sacks and two stripped balls that lead the Broncos into the end zone for an additional 14 points. Denver’s defense stole the show and left both Newton and Carolina fans speechless after a 24-10 loss.
Disappointed would be an understatement for what Cam Newton was feeling after losing the biggest game of his career during the post- game press conference. As he took the podium, his sunken demeanor and forlorn attitude showcased attributes that shocked the nation due to his season long celebratory antics.
When asked if there was a reason why Carolina didn’t play the way it normally plays, Newton’s response was simple, “Got outplayed bro.”
According to Newton, nothing was different in the way Denver played. They simply made more plays than Carolina. “We had our opportunities. It wasn’t nothing special that they did,” Newton explained in an aggravated tone. “They scored more points than us.”
Newton failed to provide a valid response when asked if he could put into words the disappointment he was feeling. Perhaps there were no words that could embody his discontent and overall frustration except, “We lost.” There was no need to describe his feelings or paint a picture that would display his defeat. Uttering the phrase, “we lost,” out loud was defeat all in itself. Newton was forced to except his human nature and watch his heroic powers crumble at the defensive hands of the Denver Broncos.
Yes, Cam Newton’s demeanor and behavior after this great loss was completely understandable. But, once he decided that he no longer wanted to answer questions and suddenly walked out of the post-game conference, he exhibited signs of an immature, sore loser. Failure paves the road to success, and no matter how painful it might have been to sit on that stage and answer questions about your defeat, Cam should have done so in the same way he would have if Carolina took home the win.
Cam Newton had a responsibility as the Most Valuable Player of the NFL to carry himself in a dignified manner. And it’s a shame that after a great year with Carolina, the last memory we have of Superman is taking off his cape and walking out of the post-game conference.
Loss in inevitable and although Newton has a lot to learn in terms of conducting himself properly when faced with adversity, there is no doubt that the great Superman will rise to victory again. After all, he did say it best, “we will back.”
